A Message To Our Supporters
The Trinity Cathedral concert on May 23 was the first full performance in the Portland metro area by OBS. We are happy to be introducing Portland audiences to the unique sounds and instrumentation of a British-style brass band. However, that opportunity comes with additional effort and expense. The venue cost alone is more than $2,000. Expenses for percussion transport, guest musician honorariums, and publicity efforts will all be substantially higher than our normal concert costs. Combined, we expect those expenses to be $2,500-$3,000 more than a typical concert in Lane County.
Consequently, we are soliciting additional contributions from our established supporters and the public at large. If you already gave something extra at one of our recent concerts, we thank you. If not, please consider a tax-deductible donation to the Oregon Brass Society, either through our website at oregonbrasssociety.weebly.com or by mail to 1108 Valley Butte Drive, Eugene OR 97401. OBS is also registered with the Oregon Cultural Trust with Oregon tax credits for donations to eligible nonprofit organizations. Beginning in 2026, Federal tax laws changed now allowing each taxpayer up to $1,000 in charitable deductions “above the line” even if you normally claim the standard deduction.
Our conductor, Olin Hannum
Olin Hannum is an American composer based in the Willamette Valley, and Associate Director of Bands at Oregon State University. In that capacity he teaches courses in music, oversees all aspects of the Athletics Bands program, and directs the OSU Wind Symphony. His works have been performed across the United States, though primarily on the west coast. Hannum is a brass player, with a performing background in French horn. He has notably appeared with the Golden State Wind Orchestra, Berkeley Symphony Orchestra and the San Francisco Wind Ensemble. Olin holds recording and live credits from a performing career in the Sacramento and Bay Areas.
